'Pretend like it's a fucking video game' and there we have the premesis for the beautifully dark, visually mesmerizing cult flick by Harmony Korine. Spring Breaker's hit theatre's in the UK last April, showings were few and lasted only a matter of weeks, proving to be somewhat of a love it or hate it kinda film. Well, here at STYLE VOMIT we absolouted loved it, every aspect of it from the ingeniously controversial casting of the nations favourite Disney Princesse's Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, to the sick bass dropping soundtrack produced by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez.
The plot? Girls gone wild. And that's about it. The sheer beauty of Spring Breakers is Harmony Korine's wondrous portrayal of a drug trip, and the viewer's ability to accept it for what it is. Stunning, shallow, Spring Breakers allows the viewers to, for 94 minutes, live the life of a gangster vicariously through the sociopathic main characters. These aren't your average back street dingey thugs, they are beautiful, free spirited, crazy, and when combined create somewhat of a euphoric trip for us to experience. Let's just take a moment to appreciate James Franco's transformation into the truly convincing Alien who succeeded in both wholly creeping us out and making our hearts melt at the same time. He was great.
